From Cassie (in 2011 Interview):
"I am the daughter of Starr Weed Jr. and Janet Bryan Weed, with grandparents Starr Weed Sr. and Lorraine Weed (paternal) and Ralph Bryan and Darlene Hooper (maternal). I have four siblings: Tyler, Jessica, Torie, and Darcie. Currently, I’m studying at Central Wyoming College (CWC) and plan to continue my education in sports medicine at a university in Arizona. My dream is to work as a personal trainer or physical therapist with professional sports teams.
I enjoy powwow fancy dancing, traveling for powwows, beading, horseback riding, and spending time with my family. I have been dancing since I was five and appreciate my aunt Marilyn Weed Tillman for making my first jingle dress. My first powwow was during the Eastern Shoshone Indian Days in the tiny tots category. At age 13, I began fancy dancing, which allows me to express myself freely. I am proud to have been crowned the Eastern Shoshone Indian Days Queen, an honor that lets me represent my people and my grandfather.
I completed the Shoshone Youth Language Apprenticeship Program at the University of Utah, which deepened my interest in learning my Shoshone language and understanding my heritage. My role model is my grandfather, Starr Weed Sr., an inspiring man who has overcome many challenges, including being a prisoner of war.
I hope to be remembered for my perseverance and efforts toward my goals, and as someone who tried to do what’s best for my loved ones. I am proud to represent my Shoshone people positively and want to thank everyone who supported me during my journey, especially my parents, my aunt, and my dad for always being ready to help me at powwows and celebrations. Thank you!"
