What's written on her photo:
“my name is Boha-Mi-Nuki-Hut (Runs with the Spirits), Victoria Marie Capitan. I am the Eastern Shoshone Indian Days Queen for 2008-2009. I am 17 years old. I'm enrolled Eastern Shoshone, I'm part Ogalala Sioux and Navajo (Clans are Deeschiinii and Kiyaa'aanii). My parents are Maude and Victor Capitan. My grandparents are Sarah Aoah, Faye Thayer, Dexter Aoah, Mary Jane Goggles, Rose Wadda, Alice Mcgill, Nelda Aoah, and Nieden Aoah.
I attend Wind River High School as an "A" honor student and a senior for this upcoming year 2009. I am also in the Honor Society Club and I am doing college courses in school. I do volleyball, basketball, and track. I lettered in all sports. I am in the Wind River Reservation Unity Council, I participate in conferences and meetings around the reservation. I am the female president of the Wind River High School for the Indian club. I am also in the Eagle Staff Run.
I have represented the tribe by going to the local powwows, going to powwows in Colorado and Arizona, helping out with the community and elders, attended the All Native American Unity Conference in Reno, Nevada, the Montana and Wyoming Youth Conference, and went to Washington D.C. for the Obama Presidential Inauguration Parade. It was a once in a life time experience. I felt good going and seeing things I have never seen before, beyond the reservation life into the big city. I have gone there before with one of the elders, who passed away, who is my grandma Winona Generoux. I enjoyed the time I spent with my grandma. I went there for the Native American Museum, to write about unknown things of our tribe so it can be displayed in the museum for history.
I have enjoyed being the Queen for the Eastern Shoshone Powwow and I would be glad to do it
again later on in the future but will do a better job and I would be prepared this time. I am sorry for missing the big powwows but I have done my best and went to the little ones around here. This experience have opened my up, made me more of an independent person and out spoken. I have made many new friends. I want to thank everyone that has supported and helped me, especially Vivian Swallows and UNITY. It made my year of queen, happy and a successful year.
My plans for the future are to graduate from Wind River High School as an "A" honor student and then attend CWC for my basics, to get my Bachelors Degree. Afterwards I would head out to Carroll College in Montana or some other college to get my Doctorate Degree. I want to be a nurse, physical therapist, or something in the medical field. I love helping out the elders, sucklings, and young ones. That is what I want to be and come back to the reservation to do some good. Right now I am a CNA, slowly crawling up on my life goal.
