From Alyssa Washakie:

“ What inspired me to run for the queen title was the desire to fulfill a significant dream of mine: holding all three Indian Days titles. I am incredibly thankful to have achieved that! Additionally, I was motivated to run for my younger sisters, to continue being a role model for them, and to show them that it’s possible to chase and achieve big dreams.

The biggest surprise for me was holding the title during COVID-19, which came with many unknowns. However, it also provided the opportunity to talk with my younger sisters about my experiences in holding these titles, helping to guide them when they decide to run for these positions.

My main responsibilities included traveling to as many powwows and events as possible to represent our powwow, our tribe, and my family to the best of my ability. I was fortunate to travel a lot and meet some wonderful people, thanks to my family!

Overall, the experiences and memories I gained are ones I will cherish forever, as they contributed significantly to my personal growth.”
